In today’s world, replacing items with new ones is easy, but when it comes to baths, it’s not as straightforward. It’s not easy to dispose of an old bath, especially depending on its material. Cast-iron baths are so heavy that they have to be smashed to pieces before being carried out, which can lead to damage throughout your bathroom. Even with lighter acrylic baths, removal can lead to damage to the rest of your bathroom. Once removed, you’ll need to re-tile around the bath, refit taps and drains, and possibly replace flooring. Restoring your bath instead of replacing it helps cut down on daily construction waste, making it a more sustainable option. Traditional metal baths are common in older houses and can last for decades with proper maintenance. When a metal bath shows signs of wear, resurfacing is a quick and effective way to restore it to its original condition. When I repair individual chips and scratches on baths I have to colour match the repair to the surface of your bath, but with bath re-enamelling or bath resurfacing as I am respraying the whole surface I just use a new brilliant white enamel paint.

The materials I use to resurface your bath are professional grade that are only available on a commercial basis. You simply can't just use normal white paint to paint the surface. The use of an adhesive bonder is critical in resurfacing to create a solid bond between the new layer and the original bath. The specialized bonder I use provides the strongest and most lasting bond for bath resurfacing. You may have heard of Vitreous enamel - this is a specialised procedure where the bath is coated in a powdered glass material and then this is fused onto the surface of your bath in a large kiln at very high temperatures. This service could never be offered in-situ due to the extreme heat involved and I don't know of many companies that are able to offer this any more for baths.
