In this day and age, it is so easy to buy something new and throw away the old one rather than trying to have it repaired or restored. Getting rid of an old bath is not as straightforward as many people think. Cast-iron baths are extremely heavy and must be broken apart for removal, which often results in damage to your bathroom. Although acrylic baths are easier to remove, the process still causes damage to surrounding areas in your bathroom. Once removed, you’ll need to re-tile around the bath, refit taps and drains, and possibly replace flooring. Restoring your bath instead of replacing it helps cut down on daily construction waste, making it a more sustainable option. Metal baths are a lasting feature of older homes, providing durability for decades. I only use top-grade materials, exclusively available for commercial use, to resurface your bath. Regular paint won’t do the job for bath resurfacing; the right materials are essential for success. To ensure proper resurfacing, I use an adhesive bonder that bonds the new surface firmly to the original bath. You may have heard of Vitreous enamel - this is a specialised procedure where the bath is coated in a powdered glass material and then this is fused onto the surface of your bath in a large kiln at very high temperatures. I’m not aware of many companies still offering this in-situ, as the extreme heat needed makes it impossible.
