Bath resurfacing, or re-enamelling, is the process of spraying a new enamel surface onto your bath, giving it a fresh look. The process is carried out directly in your bathroom, so no disruption to your bath installation or plumbing. This high-quality enamel paint hardens in just 24 hours, so you can enjoy your bath again the very next day. When I re-enamel a bath, as part of the process I will fill in any chip repairs, scratch repairs, etc., that need to be done so that when the new enamel is sprayed on, the surface will be smooth again. My resurfacing service is suitable for cast-iron, metal, and acrylic baths. It only takes a day to do this procedure, which is much faster and cheaper than replacing your bath. You can trust my bath resurfacing, which comes with a 12-month guarantee.
These days, it’s common to discard old items and buy new ones, but with baths, it’s not always that simple. With baths, it's actually not that easy to get rid of the old one. Cast-iron baths are so heavy that they have to be smashed to pieces before being carried out, which can lead to damage throughout your bathroom. Acrylic baths are lighter, making removal easier, but still cause damage to your bathroom when removed. Removing your bath means redoing the tiling, refitting taps, and possibly replacing flooring, making it a costly and disruptive process. When you choose to restore your bath you are choosing the most environmentally friendly option as you won't be contributing to the vast amount of construction waste that gets produced on a daily basis. Many older homes feature metal baths that can last a lifetime with the right care. When their surface becomes dull and tired, chipped, scratched, etc, it is so easy to resurface them so they look brand new again and you'll have a perfect and strong bath in no time. While acrylic baths have a shorter lifespan than metal baths, resurfacing them gives great results. When I repair individual chips and scratches on baths I have to colour match the repair to the surface of your bath, but with bath re-enamelling or bath resurfacing as I am respraying the whole surface I just use a new brilliant white enamel paint.
I only use top-grade materials, exclusively available for commercial use, to resurface your bath. You can’t simply apply regular white paint to resurface your bath. The use of an adhesive bonder is critical in resurfacing to create a solid bond between the new layer and the original bath. I have sourced a very specialised bonder which creates the most lasting results possible. I have been using my preferred materials for many years so I know that they work and create the highest standard of repairs.
All of my resurfacing work is done in-situ, so you will never have to remove your bath and transport it to me, then have it delivered back and installed again. This way there is minimal disruption to you as I will only need to be working in your bathroom for a day before I'm out of your hair again. You may have heard of Vitreous enamel - this is a specialised procedure where the bath is coated in a powdered glass material and then this is fused onto the surface of your bath in a large kiln at very high temperatures. This service could never be offered in-situ due to the extreme heat involved and I don't know of many companies that are able to offer this any more for baths.
If your bath is badly chipped and dented, I will repair this first to ensure the surface is smooth and flat before resurfacing it. This is all included in the process and there won't be any extra charges for this. There are very few baths that I can’t resurface—call me today to find out if I can restore your bath in Wigan.
1. I’ll carefully mask the bathroom and surrounding areas to protect them during the resurfacing process.
2. I will sand off the top surface of the bath to take it back to the metal. 3. Next, I will apply a layer of our unique bonder and fill in any chips, holes, cracks, or other imperfections. 4. After that, I will apply another layer of bonder on top. 5. At this stage, I will apply a new enamel coating to your bath. 6. The next step is to buff the surface, ensuring it has a smooth, shiny finish. 7. Allow 24 hours for the surface to cure before using your bath, and it will look brand new!
Re-enamelling or resurfacing a bath will take about 5-7 hours to complete. A significant portion of the time is spent masking and protecting all surrounding surfaces to prevent overspray. This step is crucial to ensure the surrounding areas remain undamaged. If your bath has lots of chips and dents then these also have to be filled in and repaired before the new enamel surface is sprayed on as you won't get a good result if the bath isn't repaired first. If your bath has damage, this extra step can take a bit longer than if no repairs are needed.
My years of experience in bath resurfacing mean I can get your bath looking like it’s just been installed. Once your bath is re-enamelled, it will look and feel just like a new one.
Choosing to resurface your bath rather than replace it is a cost-effective, time-saving, and environmentally conscious decision. Restoring your bath helps minimize environmental impact by preventing additional waste in landfills. I repair chips, cracks, and scratches as part of the resurfacing process, ensuring a smooth finish.
Don’t expect to achieve the same outcome by using DIY materials from your local shop; I use only the best materials for the job. I have been using the same materials for the last 10 years, so I know that they work every time and will produce a lasting result.
How long does a re-enamelled bath last?
The restored surface of your bath will remain in excellent condition for many years. I’ll show you the best cleaning techniques to maintain the shiny and smooth finish of your bath. All of my work is guaranteed for 12 months for your peace of mind.
