It’s become second nature to replace old items with new ones, but with baths, the process of removal and replacement is far more complicated. It’s not easy to dispose of an old bath, especially depending on its material. Cast-iron baths weigh a ton and have to be smashed apart to be able to carry the pieces out of your house, and this obviously causes damage to the rest of your bathroom. Even with lighter acrylic baths, removal can lead to damage to the rest of your bathroom. Removing the bath means you’ll have to replace the tiling, reinstall taps and waste, and maybe even redo the flooring. Opting to restore your bath helps you avoid contributing to the large amount of construction waste produced every day. Metal baths are usually original features of older houses, and they will last for decades! When the surface of metal baths gets worn, chipped, or scratched, resurfacing makes them look brand new again, restoring strength and beauty. When fixing chips and scratches, I match the color to your bath’s surface, but for re-enamelling or resurfacing, I use a new white enamel finish.

For resurfacing your bath, I rely on high-quality, professional materials that are reserved for commercial use. You can’t simply apply regular white paint to resurface your bath. The use of an adhesive bonder is critical in resurfacing to create a solid bond between the new layer and the original bath. You may have heard of Vitreous enamel - this is a specialised procedure where the bath is coated in a powdered glass material and then this is fused onto the surface of your bath in a large kiln at very high temperatures. I’m not aware of many companies still offering this in-situ, as the extreme heat needed makes it impossible.
