It’s become second nature to replace old items with new ones, but with baths, the process of removal and replacement is far more complicated. Removing an old bath isn’t as simple as it may seem. Cast-iron baths are so heavy that they have to be smashed to pieces before being carried out, which can lead to damage throughout your bathroom. While acrylic baths are much lighter and can be carried out more easily, it will still cause damage to the rest of your bathroom if you have it removed. Once removed, you’ll need to re-tile around the bath, refit taps and drains, and possibly replace flooring. You may be familiar with Vitreous enamel, a specialized process where powdered glass is fused to the bath’s surface in a high-temperature kiln. Due to the extreme heat required, this service can’t be done in-situ, and few companies offer it these days.
