In this day and age, it is so easy to buy something new and throw away the old one rather than trying to have it repaired or restored. Removing an old bath isn’t as simple as it may seem. Cast-iron baths are so heavy that they have to be smashed to pieces before being carried out, which can lead to damage throughout your bathroom. Even with lighter acrylic baths, removal can lead to damage to the rest of your bathroom. Once removed, you’ll need to re-tile around the bath, refit taps and drains, and possibly replace flooring. You may be familiar with Vitreous enamel, a specialized process where powdered glass is fused to the bath’s surface in a high-temperature kiln. Vitreous enamel resurfacing requires extreme heat, which means it can’t be done in-situ and is rarely offered by companies now.
