In today’s consumer culture, we often choose to replace over repair, but when it comes to baths, it’s not so easy. When it comes to baths, getting rid of the old one isn’t a quick or easy task. Cast-iron baths are extremely heavy and must be broken apart for removal, which often results in damage to your bathroom. While acrylic baths are much lighter and can be carried out more easily, it will still cause damage to the rest of your bathroom if you have it removed. Removing your bath means redoing the tiling, refitting taps, and possibly replacing flooring, making it a costly and disruptive process. I use commercial-grade materials to resurface your bath, which are not available to the general public. Regular paint won’t do the job for bath resurfacing; the right materials are essential for success. A key step of successful resurfacing is using an adhesive bonder to bond the new surface to your original bath. Vitreous enamel is a unique process where powdered glass is fused to the surface of the bath at extremely high temperatures in a kiln. I’m not aware of many companies still offering this in-situ, as the extreme heat needed makes it impossible.
